Bitterness Will Destroy Your Soul

David was a king, and If someone killed your son, you should be angry. In fact, you must be vengeful. But as time weighs in, morality takes over and wisdom leads. His instructions to all the commanders including Joab were clear.

Now the king had commanded Joab, Abishai, and Ittai, saying, “Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom.” And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains orders concerning Absalom. 2 Samuel 18:5 NKJV

Yet Joab killed Absalom

Then Joab said, “I cannot linger with you.” And he took three spears in his hand and thrust them through Absalom’s heart, while he was still alive in the midst of the terebinth tree.

2 Samuel 18: 14

Because of this act, David hated Joab for a very long time. He was bitter towards him. The only problem was that Joab was good at his job and so it was difficult to get rid of him.

Out of bitterness, David appointed a new man called Amasa to take over Joab’s position. David learned the hard way when Amasa failed miserably in his first assignment.

In the end David r, an back to Joab and pleaded with him to resume his position. Even on his deathbed David never forgot about the incident. He instructed his other son Solomon to deal with Joab.

Prolonged bitterness forces blunder. The king was so adamant to deal with Joab but he never confronted him. He hid it in his heart. As a result, bitterness was destroying his government. It was disturbing his soul. That was not the right approach on King David’s part.

There are many ways to deal with sensitive issues in life, and bottling up inner feelings and vengeful emotions is not one of them.

When you are bitter toward someone, you tend not to see any good in them. The truth is that, sometimes, they may regrettably be the answer to the mystery you need or a door to your next stage in life. When you have an issue with handling someone, face the person head-on, talk about it, tell it as it is, and squash it. If there is no resolution, then move on. You did your part

Are you struggling with bitterness toward someone? Knowingly or unknowingly.? Pray this prayer today.

Lord Jesus, Have mercy on me and heal me. Heal my heart. More of you and less of me. More of your love and less of my ways. Deliver me from bitterness in Jesus' name I pray. Amen
